"A good community exists when its elders plant trees to shade the next generation"
Chinese Proverb
In October 1993, after sponsoring two statewide intergenerational conferences, the Society on Aging began collaberation with the Association for Children of NJ and Lorna W. Reynolds Children's Development Fund in order to explore the establishment of an Intergenerational Coalition for NJ. The model for this organization was to be Generations United, a national association of intergenerational networks. From 1993 through 1995, the group grew inmemebership and organizational support. A steering committee was formed and on April 19, 1995, organizational bylaws were approved and a Board of Directors was elected. The New Jersey Intergenerational Network was born!

NJiN is a non-profit membership organization dedicated to bridging the generations by encouraging activities that link young children, youth , and older adults in service to the community and to one another. NJiN supports ongoing local and state efforts that address human needs and concerns of all generations. NJiN acts as an advocate for public policies concerning programs and facilitates contact and collaboration amoung diverse groups. Our members are individuals and organizations dedicated to this idea.
